Peer Review Criteria for Submissions
To be accepted for publication, all manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Rural Problems (JRP) must meet Criteria 1–10 for ‘research articles’ (listed in the table below) and Criteria 1–9 for ‘short papers’.

Criterion 1 Social science research on food, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and rural areas.
Criterion 2 The research has novel implications, not found in the literature, in at least one or more of the following: problem area, research issue, theory, methodology, or obtained findings.
Criterion 3 The novelty and academic significance are discussed thorough the review of existing literature.
Criterion 4 The title and abstract of the paper are appropriate.
Criterion 5 The background, problem setting, methodology, results, discussion, and derivation of the conclusion are logical.
Criterion 6 The recognition of facts, the data and material used, and the procedures for analysis are appropriate.
Criterion 7 Sentences written in either Japanese or English are suitable and easy to understand.
Criterion 8 The content of all figures and tables and their respective titles and footnotes are suitable.
Criterion 9 The section structure, notes, citations, and reference list should be written in accordance with the technical guidelines for submission to the Journal of Rural Problems.
Criterion 10 The research has a sufficiently high level of originality, academic importance, and completeness and is suitable for publication as a research article.
