ARAFE Guidelines for Copyright
1. Purpose
The purpose of these guidelines is to clarify the handling of copyright (right of reproduction of print media and public transmission rights for electronic media, etc.) for the printing and distribution or internet transmission of papers published in the Journal of Rural Problems (JRP). In principle, these guidelines stipulate that the copyright of papers is transferred to The Association for Regional Agricultural and Forestry Economics (ARAFE). However, due consideration is given to ensure the author is not disadvantaged.
2. Attribution of copyright
(1) The Japanese and foreign copyrights (right of reproduction of print media and public transmission rights for electronic media, etc.) of papers submitted to the Journal of Rural Problems (JRP) are generally attributed to ARAFE. The above applies from the time the author’s final peer-reviewed manuscript (i.e., the manuscript accepted for publication and modified by the author) is submitted to ARAFE.
(2) The preprint copyright before the author’s final manuscript is attributed to the author and ARAFE does not regulate its reproduction or public transmission.
3. Use of copyright
(1) When the author him/herself intends to use articles submitted to the Journal of Rural Problems (JRP), the author is to submit an application to ARAFE to obtain permission for use beforehand. However, ARAFE will not prevent the author from using the article if its use is intended for non-profit purposes; use for profit is permitted if it does not infringe on the interests of ARAFE.
In particular, if the author is using the article as part of their doctoral thesis, an application for use is not necessary. However, it must be clearly stated that the applicable section is reliant on the article being published in the Journal of Rural Problems (JRP), such as by listing the article as the first paper.
(2) If there is an application for the use of an article submitted to the Journal of Rural Problems (JRP) from a third party, the application will be deliberated by the ARAFE permanent editorial board. Permission will be granted to suitable applications.
(3) When using articles submitted to the Journal of Rural Problems, the source is to be clearly specified (e.g., Author’s name “Article name” Journal of Rural Problems, Volume number, Year of Issue, page/s.)
(4) For the electronic use of articles (e.g., publishing articles on DVDs or online, etc.), the source is to be clearly specified. Further, it is preferable that the article be published in PDF format.
4. Copyright infringement and dispute resolution
(1) If there has been a copyright infringement (or suspected infringement) by a third party regarding an article for which ARAFE holds copyright, ARAFE and the author will collectively discuss their response and endeavor to resolve the issue.
(2) If there is a problem wherein the ARAFE copyrighted paper infringes the copyright or interests of a third-party, the author shall bear full responsibility.
